Congratulations to our 2023-24 Brighton High School Teacher of the Year, Austin Gillespie!
Mr. Gillespie is the Science Department Chair and has been teaching at Brighton since 2012. He not only teaches some of the most rigorous courses at Brighton such as AP Computer Science, AP Chemistry, and Honors Chemistry, but is also the coach of our E-sports team.
Mr. Gillespie is the ultimate professional. He understands the important role he has a teacher working with teenagers. As one student said, “Gillespie has taught me more than science. Throughout his classes, he teaches how to work hard and diligently. His classes have been the most impactful of my classes throughout high school.” And, from another, “He makes chemistry make sense. He connects with every student and teaches advanced topics while making it understandable for everyone. He supports people in all of their decisions and wants to help you become the best version of yourself. He deserves this so much and is awesome!” Mr. Gillespie is not only loved by our students, but by parents as well. One parent commented: “It’s nice to see a teacher who prepares them to succeed in college and doesn’t appear to be just “going through the motions.” To have a positive role model that helps my children want to be more and to be willing to put the effort in is exactly what the teacher of the year should be. It’s not just a popularity contest, or someone that’s cool, but someone who helps them be better than they were and desire to be more!”
We are so proud of Mr. Austin Gillespie and feel lucky to have him on staff at Brighton High School.
