If you know Shan Apolonio, you can’t help but love her and her students and their parents feel the same way. She is a master teacher who loves social studies, especially geography. Because of this, she wants her students to feel the same. Shan wants every student to learn and puts the time and effort into each lesson so all students can access the material. Go to her class and you will see students engaged and learning from the struggling learners to the most proficient. But, more than that, Shan cares deeply about kids. She has always tried to make her classroom a place where every student feels welcome. She treats students with respect, getting to know each of them and always being sensitive to the struggles that teenagers face. Kids feel safe when they walk into Shan’s classroom where they are valued, listened to and respected.
